Pray For Jim Hoft Over At Gateway Pundit

JoshuaPundit: One of the long time fixtures of the blogosphere is Jim Hoft over at the renowned site Gateway Pundit. He also, as an aside, is a pretty nice and decent human being...and now, a victim of ObamaCare:

In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee.

Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended up lasting twelve. My heart was severely damaged. Dr. Lee later told me the surgery was one of the most difficult of his career. He also said I only had a few days to live without the surgery.

Thanks to the excellent insurance I carried I was able to receive life-saving medical treatment at St. Louis University.

This week I found out I am going to lose my insurance. The company that carried me is leaving the Missouri market. I will have to find something else.

I am one of the millions who will be looking for new insurance. God willing, I will be able to keep my doctors at St. Louis University. I trust them. They saved my life. Please pray for me and the millions of working Americans who are going through this same ordeal.

Why is our government doing this to us?

Well Jim, it's because they feel they can..and because they don't feel they're our government, but that we're their cash cow.

Simply disgraceful.

Rest assured Jim that prayers for a refuah shlemiah, a complete a total recovery addressed to the Maker of us all are a given...and I'll see what I can do to add to the prayer circle, because there are lots of us who care about you and wish you the best.

UPDATE: Jim Hoft is holding a Wheel-In Obamacare protest this Saturday between 11 AM CT to Noon at Senator Claire McCaskill’s St. Louis office, located at 5850 Delmar Blvd, Ste. A, St. Louis, Missouri 63112. Jim will be leading the protest in his wheel chair, with the theme, Why is Our Government Punishing the American People-Give Us Back Our Healthcare!”.

North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple Signs Obamacare Nullification Bill

Written by: TAC Daily Updates  -  from Rob Port at the SayAnything blog:

Apparently deciding that the risk of angering his constituents over a failure to act against Obamacare was worse than angering his Attorney General, Wayne Stenehjem, who holds that the state cannot pass laws contradicting federal law, Governor Jack Dalrymple signed SB2309. (click here to read about the health care nullification act in N.D.)

The bill affirms that North Dakotans have the right to buy, or not buy, whatever health insurance they want. This law is statute. A previous bill that would have amended the constitution with similar language was defeated with a gang of 29 House Republicans voting with Democrats at the behest of Stenehjem to kill it.

This bill was discussed on Fox News recently by state nullification proponent Tom Woods and Judge Andrew Napolitano. “The new state law, if signed by Dalrymple, says the federal health insurance law can’t interfere with North Dakotans’ decision to buy health insurance or not buy health insurance,” wrote the editorial board of the Minot Daily News though the paper went on to say that the law “won’t make a difference” because state law “can’t override a federal law.”

This, of course, isn’t true. The states are under no obligation to abide by federal laws that are unconstitutional. And since that is the State of North Dakota’s official position on Obamacare in a multi-state lawsuit challenging the law, this law passed by the legislature and signed by the governor is appropriate.

Kudos to Dalrymple for having the courage many other political leaders in this state do not.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Recently, Idaho’s Governor Otter signed an order refusing state compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). With this signature, North Dakota is now the first state in the country to pass into law the Health Care Nullification Act.

The Tenth Amendment Center has released the Federal Health Care Nullification Act, which directly nullifies the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” on a state level. Click here to learn more about the bill. CLICK HERE to track the Nullification Act in states around the country.

Keep Praying!

Today's hearing of our lawsuit against ObamaCare is making national headlines. Many news organizations are reporting on the great significance of my oral argument and Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's presentation that will be heard back-to-back by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia.

These lawsuits - one on behalf of private parties and one on behalf of a sovereign state - are the first lawsuits against ObamaCare to reach the appeals court level.

Because the three judges who will hear our case are selected from among the 14 sitting judges in the Fourth Circuit - four of whom are Obama appointees and three of whom are Clinton appointees - preparation for this case has been highly challenging. We cannot know who will be chosen to hear our case tomorrow, so we had to make sure we are very broadly prepared.

How important is our challenge to the constitutionality of ObamaCare? The panel of judges we will face is just one level below the United States Supreme Court. As you may recall, two lower court judges have already declared ObamaCare to be unconstitutional, while certain liberal judges have sided with the so-called healthcare "reform" act.

We are well prepared and calling for continual prayer!

As I wrote on Friday, I'm excitedly anticipating just how powerful the prayers of tens of thousands of Believers will actually be!

I know each of the 76,593 patriotic men and women who signed our Amici Book want our nation to be delivered from the devastation of ObamaCare before it is too late.

Above all, I know God is hearing these prayers and that He Is answering!

I am emphatically asking that you pray for my entire team and me in the remaining hours before I stand before the panel of federal judges to defend the liberties of all Americans against this outrageous law.

Your prayers mean a great deal to me and our Liberty Counsel Litigation Team and they are also crucially important to all Americans who recognize this blatant socialist takeover of our medical industry for exactly what it is!

Please pray! God bless you!

Study: Adult stem cells successful in restoring sight

Posted on Jul 6, 2010 | by Tom Strode

WASHINGTON (BP)--Adult stem cells have restored sight to more than three-fourths of patients blinded by chemical burns to their eyes, according to a new research study.

The results, reported at the International Society for Stem Cell Research meeting in San Francisco, showed success in 77 percent of people in the study after one or two procedures, according to Bloomberg News. It showed partial success in 13 percent of the cases and failure in 10 percent.

Italian researchers tracked participants in the study for an average of three years, some for as many as 10 years.

The procedure involved taking healthy stem cells from a patient's eye and, after growing them, layering the tissue onto the injured eyes, Bloomberg reported. The stem cells were taken from the limbus, which is at the intersection of the cornea and the sclera, the white portion of the eye. The cells produced a healthy cornea in the successful cases, resulting in an eye that is normal in color and appearance.

"The patients, they are happy, even the partial successes," said lead researcher Graziella Pellegrini of the University of Modena's Center for Regenerative Medicine, according to Bloomberg. "We have a couple of patients who were blind in both eyes. Can you imagine for these patients the change in their quality of life?"

The study involved treatment of 112 people.

The method may assist in other therapies, a researcher said.
"This is bigger than just the surface of the eye," said Ivan Schwab, a stem cell researcher at the University of California-Davis, according to Bloomberg. Schwab said it may work on regenerating "livers or other organs."

The study is another success for adult, or non-embryonic, stem cells, which have produced therapies in trials for at least 73 ailments in human beings, according to Do No Harm, a coalition promoting ethics in research. Embryonic stem cell research, which results from the destruction of human embryos, has yet to generate successful treatments in human beings.

Permission to Rest Outside of Tahiti

One observation I have heard visitors to the States often make is that Americans are always in such a hurry, and that we don’t seem to know how to relax. In contrast, people in some countries work fewer hours and have much longer vacations. In some cultures, a nap is just part of daily life.  The idea of “hurry” and “overtime” just doesn’t fit in with my idea of Tahiti.

When was the last time you took a break to just enjoy a beautiful day? Can you take a real day off? A real vacation? Do you feel guilty when you do?

Wellness coaching is often thought of as a means to lose weight or regain fitness. Therefore, discussion may focus on diet and exercise, or the number of hours spent sleeping.  However, the larger picture of a healthier life is not just a regular bedtime, but breaks in routine throughout the week or month or year.

In these times of hurry and over-commitment, we might rationalize that we just can’t afford to step away simply to unwind and recharge.  Even though God does not get tired, He set the precedent for us by resting one day after working for six days on Creation. The commandment to rest one day a week was important enough to be included in the initial Ten. Rather than a heavy obligation, this commandment is a mercy gift to us from Him. God also gave Israel holidays (from “holy days”) as times for celebration, worship, and family.

It’s not enough to just rest from physical work; we also require mental, emotional, and spiritual refreshing. So many of us are exhausted mentally and emotionally, which affects our physical energy levels as well.  Just as the body is recharged by ceasing exertion and taking time to sleep, the soul and spirit are recharged by time spent in peace and quiet, the beauty of nature and art, and just having fun, to name a few.

So instead of figuratively hacking away at the forest with a dull blade, taking time for rest and relaxation sharpens our axe so that our work is actually of higher quality and more productive.  A “working vacation” is unsatisfactory and does justice to neither work nor vacation.

More than that, it’s time to give ourselves permission to rest, not only when feeling tired, but as a regular part of our lifestyle.  The world can manage without us for a little while.  If we don’t draw our own boundaries, someone else surely will. A weekly day of rest and other set-apart times are God’s gift to man. Accept this gift for yourself.

A wellness coach can be a wonderful ally who supports the decision to give yourself permission to engage in R&R.  The coach can help navigate the balance between work and rest, and encourage creativity in healthy diversions from the pressures of “hurry sickness”.  A brain-storming session followed by action steps involving marking dates for R&R on the calendar is wonderfully liberating and honoring to our personal humanity.

But before you book that six-month trip to Tahiti, it would be wise to begin with baby steps: a regular day off, an afternoon walk in the park on a beautiful day, and a weekend now and again. The quality of your rest is enhanced by how you choose to spend your time.  Practicing new and intentional choices to nurture your soul and spirit builds a habit of greater appreciation, comfort, and wholeness that can be more easily maintained. As incremental changes are introduced and supported, a lifestyle of honoring your need for rejuvenation will be developed. Then, on an upcoming day of rest, you can daydream about a trip to Tahiti, and your coach can help you make that happen too!

Donna Astern just got back from a few days of R&R in which she slept, read, prayed, & enjoyed the beauty of nature.
