Why has this Common Food Been Dumped in Europe… Yet, is Still Rampant in the US?

A group of conventional physicians who are strongly aligned with the pharmaceutical paradigm have called themselves the “skeptics”. They also have a few journalists in their camp.

Michael Spector is one of these journalists. If you have any appreciation of natural medicine you will have a very good laugh by watching his entire presentation at a recent TED conference.

Jeffrey Smith, the premiere GMO expert and author of the bestseller Seeds of Deception, and Genetic Roulette, exposes the flimsy rationale, and the complete lack of evidence that tries to pass as “science” when it comes to defending genetic engineering.

Science can, and has, given us answers to the question: “Are genetically modified foods safe?”

But those answers are NOT what industry is reporting, and the reason is simple. If they were, genetically engineered crops would never be allowed to be planted, and GM foods would be banned worldwide.

Smith sheds light on how the deception is perpetrated, and counters the critics' claims that “GMOs are safe” with science-based evidence.

There are a number of people who object to the information I’m sharing on the internet. Some have a direct vested conflict of interest that explains their behavior, but there is also a large group of people who seek to use science or the scientific method as justification that many of the principles we advocate and instruct you to apply in your life are incorrect.

One of the more prominent media proponents that try to debunk what I teach is an individual named Michael Specter.

He’s the author of a book called Denialism and is a journalist for the New York Times. He recently gave a lecture at a TED conference, criticizing those who would dare to question, among other items, the science of vaccines or genetically modified foods.

He goes so far as classifying those of us who seek to alert the public to the potential dangers inherent with vaccines and GMOs as “endangering public health.”

It is my position that actually the converse is true, and that clear, independent, scientific evidence exists to back up our claims. Those of us who are concerned about the safety of vaccines and GMOs are absolutely committed to the scientific method.

Science does work. The challenge with science that many people fail to appreciate is that it has become progressively easier for many well funded multinational corporations to manipulate and distort the entire process to make it appear as though science is applied, when in fact it’s only superficially being implemented due to massive conflict of interest.

In recent times we’ve seen researchers being exposed for creating entirely fraudulent research; studies are ghostwritten and researchers are paid to put their names on work they’ve had no part in; journalists are paid to write articles that are nothing more than thinly disguised advertising, and the list of scientific deception goes on.

All of this deceptive maneuvering gives industry the appearance of being science based, when in fact they’re oftentimes far from it.

Of course this creates confusion. How could it not?

But there is a simple, rational solution. And that is to pay attention to the source of the funding, for one, and to pay special heed to research that comes from independent sources that have no vested interest in manipulating the end results.

When you do, you’ll find that there is no shortage of scientific based evidence showing a wide variety of hazards that are currently being ignored and glossed over with, in many cases, completely nonsensical PR sound bytes.

Jeffrey Smith is clearly one of the leading experts on genetically modified foods in the world, and his not-for-profit organization ResponsibleTechnology.org has amassed an ever growing number of studies illustrating the grave dangers inherent with GMOs.

Avoiding a Problem Doesn’t Prove It’s Not There – How Industry Manipulates Scientific Results to Justify “Safety”

“These guys have gotten bad science down to a science. They are expert at figuring out ways to avoid finding the problems,” Smith says.

“When genetically modified bovine growth hormone was being tested, one disgruntled FDA employee evidently stole the documents and made them public.

They showed that when Monsanto’s researchers wanted to prove that the [rBGH] injections did not interfere with the cow’s fertility, they secretly introduced cows to the study that were already pregnant before they were ever injected.

And when they wanted to show that the pasteurization process destroys the hormone that’s increased in the milk supply, they pasteurized the milk 120 times longer than normal. That destroyed 19 percent of the hormones.

So they doused the milk with 147 times the amount of the naturally existing hormone, and heated the milk 120 times longer than normal. Under those bizarre circumstances, they were able to destroy 90 percent of the rBGH hormone, and that’s what the FDA reported – that pasteurization destroys 90 percent of the hormone. “

Essentially, the entire scientific method was bastardized and rigged, and used as an incredibly deceptive, yet effective, mechanism to convince people that rBGH was safe.

“In fact, I talked to a former Monsanto scientist who said he was aware that colleagues had fed genetically modified corn to certain rodents and came up with problems,” Smith says. “But instead of pulling the corn off the market or withdrawing the application, they rewrote the study to hide the incidence of the problems.

He also said that three of his colleagues who were doing safety studies on Monsanto’s genetically modified bovine growth hormone stopped drinking milk after they saw the changes in the milk.”

Michael Specter, like so many others, are simply repeatedly parroting the same fabrications despite the fact that the dangers of GMOs are now well documented.

If You Believe in Science-Based Evidence, then You Must Follow Wherever it Leads

Even the FDAs own scientists have stated that GMOs can lead to allergies, nutritional problems, the creation of toxins and new diseases and should require long term safety studies.

But they too were simply ignored.

Smith recounts a story about a South African pro-GM advocate who claimed that even the National Academy of Sciences in the US had determined that GMOs are “absolutely risk free.”

“So I called the National Academy of Sciences of the United States and I spoke to the person in charge of the biotech division,”Smith says, “And she laughed and said, “If we didn’t think there was any extra risk, why would we have released two reports on it?”

She completely dismissed his statement and said it sounded like someone from the biotech industry organization in the United States, although it was their counterpart in South Africa.

So what we have, actually, is a system of denial, distortion, and deadly dangers that are being ignored.”

What you must understand is that much of today’s scientific research is no longer performed through public funding, as it were in the pre-Reagan days, but rather by the industry itself.

This phenomenon explains why “science-based evidence” can no longer be taken at face value, but must first be vetted by looking at who paid the bill, and what sort of results might the one holding the purse strings be looking for. In the case of GMOs, the biotech industry surely is NOT looking for problems.

Fortunately for you, others are, and they’re doing their best to warn you.

Just last year the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) reviewed the available research and issued a memorandum recommending that all doctors prescribe non-GMO diets to all patients because they are causally linked in animal feeding studies to:

  • Infertility
  • Immune system problems
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Organ damage
  • Dysfunctional regulation of cholesterol and insulin
  • Accelerated aging

They came to this conclusion and issued this recommendation based on scientific evidence, not on individuals who are trying to deny or hide the fact that problems exist.

The AAEM is the same organization that identified the Gulf War syndrome, chemical sensitivity and food allergies, and about a dozen other environmental health threats. They are on the frontlines, and the organization is designed to look for and investigate the sources causing health problems in the United States.

These are the types of organizations you might want to listen to, as opposed to the Specter’s of the world, who offer little or no actual data to back up their opinions.

Specter’s book, for example, provides very little of the scientific evidence he claims you should listen to, and he completely ignores some of the most importantstudies to date, which, coincidentally, show that his arguments are 100 percent incorrect.

Are GM Crops Just a Newer Version of Selective Breeding?

In order to justify the use of genetically modified foods, many will try to use the argument that we have been essentially genetically modifying our foods for thousands of years, through selective breeding of both plants and animals. In essence, they want you to believe genetic engineering is just an improved version of natural selection.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

“This is really a maddening intentional distortion,” Smith says.

“A Noble laureate said years ago that we should not mistake selective breeding with genetic engineering, because genetic engineering basically creates new organisms overnight that don’t have the benefit of the billions of years of evolution.

Even FDA scientists said in a memo that it is the opinion of the technical experts at the agency that genetic engineering is different, and leads to different risks from traditional breeding.”

Genetic engineering involves taking genes from various species of plants and animals, putting them into gene guns, and blasting millions of genes into a plate of millions of cells, and then cloning the result into a plant.

This can cause hundreds or thousands of mutations up and down the DNA chain. Genes can be switched off, switched on permanently, or change their levels of expression – at random.

“Up to 5 percent of the existing natural genes in the plant can change their levels of expression when a single new gene is introduced. In other words, there is a holistic, not well understood response, plant-wide, throughout the entire genome, where maybe hundreds or thousands of genes change their activity when a newcomer is inserted into the DNA,” Smith explains.

“So this is totally new, totally different.

On top of that, you’re throwing in antibiotic resistant marker genes that are part of the process that might yield antibiotic resistant diseases. This was a major concern by FDA scientists from the British Medical Association.

They’re throwing in viruses, viral promoters, which switch on genes at random. They could switch on genes that already exist in the plant or possibly transfer to our own gut bacteria or maybe our own cells, and switch on genes at random, permanently.

So to me that is an easy argument to overcome simply based on the science itself.”

For example, there’s the assertion that GMOs are necessary for feeding the world and the key to ending hunger. Here too, critics like Michael Specter miss their mark, and Smith explains why.

Lastly, I urge you to take the steps necessary to help eradicate GMOs from the US food supply. It will not happen through government intervention. It can only be accomplished once enough people realize that what they’re eating is a public science experiment gone wild, without any checks or balances whatsoever.
The good news, however, is that you, as an ordinary citizen, have the power to incite change, by steering the market demand toward non-GMO crops and foods. Every time you choose to buy a non-GMO product over a product that contains GM ingredients, you are making a dent in this problem.
So take advantage of local sources of organic foods as often as you can. You can also avoid GM foods by:

  • Reducing or Eliminating Processed Foods. Some 75 percent of processed foods contain GM ingredients. Use the Non-GMO Shopping Guide, available for free at www.NonGMOShoppingGuide.com.
  • Read produce and food labels. When looking at a product label, if any ingredients such as corn flour and meal, dextrin, starch, soy sauce, margarine, and tofu (to name a few) are listed, there's a good chance it has come from GM corn or soy, unless it bears the USDA organic seal.
  • Buy organic produce. Buying organic is currently the best way to ensure that your food has not been genetically modified.

How to Detox Fluorides from Your Body

(NaturalNews) You can rid you body of most fluorides with some easy natural remedies. Fluorides have been linked to a variety of severe chronic, even acute health issues. First a quick review summary of fluoride.

Fluoride Toxicity

Fluoride is a soluble salt, not a heavy metal. There are two basic types of fluoride. Calcium fluoride appears naturally in underground water sources and even seawater. Enough of it can cause skeletal or dental fluorosis, which weakens bone and dental matter. But it is not nearly as toxic, nor does it negatively affect so many other health issues as sodium fluoride, which is added to many water supplies.

Sodium Fluoride is a synthetic waste product of the nuclear, aluminum, and phosphate fertilizer industries. This fluoride has an amazing capacity to combine and increase the potency of other toxic materials. The sodium fluoride obtained from industrial waste and added to water supplies is also already contaminated with lead, aluminum, and cadmium.

It damages the liver and kidneys, weakens the immune system, possibly leading to cancer, creates symptoms that mimic fibromyalgia, and performs as a Trojan Horse to carry aluminum across the blood brain barrier. The latter is recognized as a source of the notorious "dumbing down" with lower IQ's and Alzheimer's effects of fluoride.

Flouride also causes people to become docile. It was used by both the Germans and the Russians to control prisoners during WWII and their occupations.

Another not commonly known organ victim of fluorosis is the pineal gland, located in the middle of the brain. The pineal gland can become calcified from fluorides, inhibiting it's function as a melatonin producer. Melatonin is needed for sound, deep sleep, and the lack of it also contributes to thyroid problems that affect the entire endocrine system. The pineal gland is also considered the physical link to the upper chakras or third eye for spiritual and intuitive openings.

Various permutations of Sodium Fluoride are also in many insecticides for homes and pesticides for crops. Sometimes it is even added to baby foods and bottled waters. If you live in a water fluoridated area, purchase commercially grown fruits, especially grapes, and vegetables that are chemically sprayed and grown areas irrigated by fluoridated water, you are getting a triple whammy! Better skip that fluoridated toothpaste!

Avoiding Fluoride Contamination

As always, the first step in detoxifying is to curb taking in toxins. Purifying water by reverse osmosis or distillation in fluoridated water communities is a good start to slowing down your fluoride contamination. Distillation comes with a bit of controversy, as all the minerals are removed. A great mineral supplement such as Fulvic Acid (not folic acid) or unsulfured blackstrap molasses is recommended if you distill your water.

Avoiding sprayed, commercially grown foods while consuming organic or locally grown foods is another big step. Watch out for processed foods such as instant tea, grape juice products, and soy milk for babies. They all contain high concentrations of sodium fluoride. So do many pharmaceutical "medicines". By minimizing your sodium fluoride intake, your body can begin eliminating the fluorides in your system slowly.

Magnesium is a very important mineral that many are lacking. Besides being so important in the metabolism and synthesis of nutrients within your cells, it also inhibits the absorption of fluoride into your cells! Along with magnesium, calcium seems to help attract the fluorides away from your bones and teeth, allowing your body to eliminate those toxins. So during any detox efforts with fluoride, it is essential that you include a healthy supplemental dose of absorbable calcium/magnesium as part of the protocol.

So Now Let's Speed Up the Fluoride Detox

This author received a comment stating that an earlier article's source reference to sunlight for decalcifying the pineal gland was inaccurate. He said that darkness, not light, is needed to stimulate the pineal gland into melatonin production, which should lead to breaking up the calcification of that gland. Besides being logical, further source research indicates the critic is correct!

Day time exercise, a healthful diet, not over eating, and meditation all contribute to higher melatonin production from the pineal gland. Though very helpful to many for getting a full night's deep sleep, it appears inconclusive whether melatonin supplements will help decalcify the pineal gland. But it does seem logical that it might.
Iodine supplementation has been clinically demonstrated to increase the urine irrigation of sodium fluoride from the body as calcium fluoride. The calcium is robbed from your body, so make sure you are taking effective calcium and magnesium supplements. Lecithin is recommended as an adjunct to using iodine for excreting fluorides.
Iodine is another nutrient lacking in most diets and causing hypothyroid symptoms of lethargy or metabolic imbalances. Eating lots of seafood for iodine has it's constantly rising mercury hazards. Seaweed foods and iodine supplements that combine iodine and potassium iodide are highly recommended over sea food by most.
Tamarind, originally indigenous to Africa but migrated into India and southeast Asia, has been used medicinally in Ayurvedic Medicine. The pulp, bark, and leaves from the tree can be converted to teas and strong tinctures, which have also shown the ability to eliminate fluorides through the urine.

Liver Cleanses are considered effective for eliminating fluorides and other toxins. There are two types of liver cleansing, both of which can be performed easily at home over a week or two of time. One of the protocols focuses on the liver itself , and the other cleanses the gall bladder, which is directly connected with liver functions. Simple instructions for both can be found on line with search engine inquiries.

Boron was studied in other parts of the world with pronounced success for fluoride detoxification. Borox, which contains boron, has a history of anecdotal success for detoxifying sodium fluoride. Yes, this is the borox you can find in the laundry aisles of some supermarkets. It needs to be taken in with pure water in small quantities.

As little as 1/32 of a teaspoon to 1/4 of a teaspoon in one liter of water consumed in small quantities throughout the day is what has been demonstrated as safe and effective. Around 1/8 of a teaspoon with a pinch of pure sea salt in a liter consumed in small quantities daily has been reported to have dramatic results. There is the possibility of a food grade version with sodium borate, if you can find it.

Dry Saunas combined with exercise releases sodium fluoride stored in fatty tissues. It can be intense enough to cause side effects or an occasional healing crisis. So keep the pure water intake high and drink some chickweed tea to protect the kidneys while using a highly absorbable cal/mag supplement. Lecithin is another useful adjunct to this protocol for fluoride detoxification.

Those Adjuncts to the Listed Remedies

Vitamin C in abundance was not mentioned as a helpful adjunct. It is now. But do not use ascorbic acid as your vitamin C source for an adjunct to any of the fluoride detox methods. Do take in as much other types of vitamin C as you can tolerate, along with a couple of tablespoons of lecithin daily. Add those to your absorbable calcium and magnesium supplements with plenty of pure water, get good sleep and rest, and the detox should be relatively smooth.

Chelation therapies are recommended primarily for heavy metal removals. Though fluorides are salts, the synthetic waste product variety, sodium fluoride, comes with a cargo of toxic heavy metals. And these pernicious salts have a way of combining more heavy metals. So including any one of several chelation therapies may be beneficial for overall health improvements while applying your chosen fluoride remedy or remedies.

Those include bentonite clay internally or externally, fulvic acid (NOT folic acid), cilantro pesto with chlorella, and even DMSA or any other chellation therapy with which you are familiar.

Supplements In The Senate — Again!

senateThe Senate Special Committee on Aging is chaired by Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI). The Committee may be about to take some potshots at supplements during a hearing scheduled for tomorrow, May 26. Everyone involved is being very hush-hush on what they’ll be discussing. We have, however, learned of a couple of items on their agenda.

Supplements used as drugs

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) sent undercover shoppers into health food stores with tape recorders to see whether they could get store employees to give them information on the treatment of their ailments, and many did so.

This information may be used to support the notion that supplements should go through the same lengthy and exorbitantly expensive approval process that patented drugs do. The argument will be that supplements are being used like drugs to treat medical conditions, so they should be treated like drugs. The truth is, it’s simply a case of some store employees sincerely wanting to share their knowledge and help people and not following the rules closely enough.

Product purity

The GAO also took samples of the forty top-selling herbs and tested them to see whether they were contaminated with heavy metals or other toxins. ConsumerLab found contaminants in a number of the samples, and is on the witness list for the hearing. However, the GAO and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) both found the supplements to be within acceptable levels.

The point which needs to be made at the hearing is that the supplement industry is already regulated by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has the power to protect consumers from those few supplement manufacturers not following the rules, something which it has refused to do.

In an earlier administration, we know that the FDA intentionally chose not to monitor supplements, hoping that this would lead to a crisis and thence to an expansion of FDA control. Perhaps partly in response to this history, Senators Tom Harkin (D–IA) and Orrin Hatch (R–UT) plan to introduce the “Dietary Supplement Full Implementation and Enforcement Act of 2010” before the hearing (and may have already done so by the time you receive this newsletter). This act will fully fund DSHEA and give the FDA more resources to ensure proper enforcement.

Fundraising Page ImageAs many of you know, I was diagnosed with Lupus in 1987 at the young age of 17. An age where most of us look forward graduating high school and a future of possibility, I was forced to face my own mortality. Like so many Lupus patients, my kidneys were being attacked by my own immune system. I spent most of my late teens and twenties in and out of the hospital where I endured 3 years of chemo-therapy treatments, over 15 surgeries (including bilateral hip replacements), high dose steroid therapy and countless medications (which at times were 30+ pills a day). The physical, emotional and cosmetic effects were at times more than I could bear. Nevertheless, knowing that God never gives us more than we can handle, I made a decision at the age of 19 that I was going to get better and share my story to help others who are suffering from this very serious illness; I made this my reason for being sick. I wasn't sure if I would ever even see my 30th Birthday but I never stopped fighting and here I am today to tell you about it. It was a very long, very tough road yet I never swayed from my vision of getting better and helping others.

I am so grateful to be alive and writing this to all of you today! I just turned 40 this last December and I am excited to live the next 40 years of my life sharing my story and helping others who are suffering from Lupus. I am working on a memoir of my life since my diagnosis in the hopes of sharing more of my story to help and inspire others.

Because of the devastating ramifications of Lupus, I went into kidney failure in 2005. Life works in mysterious ways because what I thought would be my biggest nightmare ended up being my biggest miracle! January 27, 2006 is now my second Birthday! My amazing Brother, Nick (My Hero), donated one of his kidneys to not only save my life but to give me the quality of life that I once could only dream about! Because of Nick's selfless gift of life, I now have the energy and stamina to fulfill my dream!

I have signed up with Lupus LA, which was founded by my Doctor -Daniel Wallace with Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, to run a 5k marathon on March 20th. Initially I wanted to raise $3,500, then I raised it to $5,000 due to the incredible outpouring of support from my AMAZING friends and family. I have made my goal of $5,000 and NOW, I am just trying to raise as much money as I can and as you can see I don't have a lot of time! I am currently the number 2 fundraiser and would love to end as the number 1 fundraiser. I know that the economy is tough and with the recent tragic events in Haiti, that so many of us donated to, funds are tight for all. However, with that said, I humbly ask for you to please find a way to contribute to this most important cause; your donation is 100% tax deductible. Lupus does run in my family and as I write to you today my Uncle Mike is also suffering from kidney failure because of Lupus.

By raising money for Lupus research we can help to find better medications, treatments, support and someday a cure that will have a trickle effect on other chronic auto-immune diseases like those mentioned above, Scleroderma, Arthritis and countless others. I am living proof of the advances in medicine since my diagnosis in 1987.

Russian scientists conducted an experiment proving that the main action principle of genetically modified produce (GM) is a “ban for procreation” for next generations of mammals.

This is the effect wanted from GM produce by Microsoft founder Bill Gates who started the struggle against the growth of the world population. Today, the community of billionaires throws GM “bombs,” disguised as charitable intentions, on African and Asian countries. Meanwhile, in Moscow alone where state purchasing of transgenic produce is prohibited, 20 % of local and 35% of imported produce are genetically modified.

In the early 1990s, Nicaragua, Mexico and Philippines were affected by a horrible epidemic, and it took scientists a while to find its source. Perfectly healthy young women had miscarriages during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Further attempts to get pregnant had the same results, followed by infertility. Doctors were at a loss. The only common denominator in all cases was the women’s participation in mass tetanus vaccination supervised by the World Health Organization and funded by Rockefeller’s Fund.

It was hard to question the sincerity of the intentions. However, Roman-Catholic organization Comite Pro Vida based in Mexico decided to test capsules with the vaccine and found something horrible. The solution contained human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which is a natural hormone required to maintain pregnancy. But how could the hormone become a part of the vaccine? Further analysis shocked the scientists. Combination of tetanus agent with HCG stimulates formation of antibodies for the latter, making women unable to carry a child. In other words, the vaccine was a concealed form of abortion.

When the plot of the billionaire David Rockefeller and the WHO was revealed, GM continued what they have started. Two year ago, the exact same things that happened in Nicaragua and Philippines occurred in Zimbabwe and Guinea. This time, the women who suffered shared love for canned corn. Despite the expectations, tests of the cans’ content have not revealed any life threatening components, and the amount of preservatives was compliant with the norm.

It was when the first suspicions regarding bio terrorism and destructive influence of transgenic substances on humans were raised by a toxicologist with the South African University.

The epidemic of infertility in the developing countries has not occurred out of the blue. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft and one of the wealthiest people on the planet who has the image of a charitable philanthropist, is involved in solving global health issues. He fights lack of food and poverty in Africa, allocating billions of dollars to support the struggle. Recently he openly stated that the goal of his charity is reduction of the planet’s population, first of all, in the third world countries.

“It is an open secret that the world magnates, in particular, the US, Japan, Canada and the EU, are concerned with the deficit of natural resources,” explains Irina Aliverova, Doctor of Sociology.

“The UN has an official document that divides the world population into the main group (golden billion) middle group, who has insufficient natural resources, and auxiliary group, represented by the population of developing countries, including Russia. The last category, nearly five billion people, should be gotten rid of as weeds.”

One of the mechanisms of a horrific program of Gates and Rockefeller currently supported by the US government was once revealed by Mitch Hein, president of biotech company Epicyte. He said that antibodies were taken from women with rare condition, immune infertility. The genes were isolated, and through the methods of genetic engineering they were inserted into the genome of regular corn seeds supplied to third world countries. It means that Africans were sowing on their fields genetically modified corn-murder with inserted hidden contraception. Hein explained what happens to people when they eat this corn. Generally, antibodies get drawn to the surface of sperm. They attach to it and make sperm so heavy that it cannot move forward.

In Russia, production of GM produce is prohibited, while consumption of five transgenic cultures is allowed (beets, corn МОН 810 banned in Europe, soy, potatoes and rice). There is no official conclusion regarding harmful effects of GM on humans. Yet, Moscow Institute of Biology named after Koltsov and National Association of Genetic Safety conducted an independent experiment. They fed hamsters with transgenic soy for a year. The same soy is used in Russia to feed cattle, and it is supplied from Holland as GM-free. This soy is also allowed for human consumption. Now it is clear what it may result in – rodents expressed delayed growth and development and serious decrease of reproductive function that resulted in inability to obtain third generation of hamsters.

“Infertility in third generation of animals grown on GM products means that the nature puts an end to these species and does not let them procreate,” says Alexander Baranov, senior associate with the Institute of Biology. “This means that GM food leads to evolutionary dead end and degradation of species. During the research another interesting fact was discovered. The animals develop pilosis of oral cavity . ”

Although scientists are not sure that it was the GM food that caused mutations, the world had noticed long time ago that toxic proteins and mutant combinations may develop in transgenic products.

No scientist will agree to predict how artificially inserted plant gene will behave in a chromosome. Possibly, three generations later women will give birth to children with hairy mouths, just like those of hamsters. Or, they may not be able to conceive at all. Maybe this is the reason why Russian and foreign manufacturers of transgenic products are afraid to mark the products as GM and prefer paying fines for violation of the law. There is no other method to recognize GM products.

As the number of infertile couples in Russia grows from year to year and today five million families are unable to have children, it looks like the hellish machine of Bill Gates has reached Russia. While scientists are afraid to experiment on humans, everyone who goes to a grocery store unwillingly becomes a guinea pig. Russian Academy of Science suggested introducing a moratorium on GM products until their safety is proven. The scientists’ attempts to get through to the officials were fruitless. Meanwhile, the fund of Bill and Melinda Gates is preparing a new GM bomb, transgenic “golden” rice that causes cillae on fallopian tubes. Again, it is hidden behind charitable intents. Allegedly, the rice replenishes vitamin A and iron in the body. Recently Bill Gates gave a speech at a conference in Long Beach where he mentioned that he was looking forward to a vaccine that will reduce growth of the world population.

What other countries do:

1. India refused the US humanitarian aid in produce at the amount of $100 million a year.
2. China banned sales of GM on its internal market, but its export is still going on.
3. GM produce is not used in Slovenia, Austria, Greece, France, Luxemburg, and Great Britain.
4. In Great Britain the produce has to be labeled even on restaurant menus.
5. Italy does not buy transgenic seeds.

Attention hypochondriacs! If you are feeling the need to seriously freak yourself out, look no further than your local Walgreens store! Yup, starting Friday you can purchase an at-home test kit that allows people who, well, worry about these things (obsessively) to see if their DNA makes them more likely to develop one (or more!) of dozens of different health conditions. Breast cancer? Check. Heart disease? Check! Alzheimer's disease? Can do! Just swab your cheek, pop it in the mail and within a week or so, your life will be completely ruined!

The product's introduction raises immediate concerns among scientists, bio-ethicists and genetic counselors. They worry that consumers will misuse or misunderstand the results of a test so open to interpretation it is potentially meaningless, or frightening, especially without a full medical assessment.
On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration told the Tribune it is investigating the medical claims the product's manufacturer, California-based Pathway Genomics, is making in marketing its genetic test, which hasn't been approved by U.S. regulators.
Pathway officials say the company's home genetic test meets federal regulations and doesn't require FDA approval.

"The tests conducted are not an in-vitro medical device and are not intended for use in diagnosis, treatment, mitigation or cure of disease. It does provide information that allows a person to learn about their health to make healthier lifestyle choices," said Ed MacBean, Pathway's vice president of product management. "If the FDA contacts us, we will discuss it and address any concerns they might have."

To this I add merely... "Yikes." This product will have all kinds of unintended consequences, methinks.

Results for the tests cost between $79 to $179, depending on the type of tests you chose.

Encologist, Dr. Coomer on Cavuto’s show today said she was very wary of this test, its results and its effects.  She is not a fan.

Professional genetic testing uses blood sample, not saliva, for the testing and costs thousands of dollars because it is then analyzed by experts and then presented and worked through with a doctor who is a specialist in this field, so Dr. Coomer is a bit worried about the accuracy or over-reaction to results.

There are also markers that could be identified, for diseases that could be passed on to offspring, that only come into play if both parents have those markers.

And every disease is affected by two factors… genetics and your environment or behavior, which is under your control.

Crooner fears that some people will use their results as a crutch or an excuse and some might even give up on things or allow themselves to go into depression after fixating on their results, which might even be wrong.

She says when all is said and done, this test will probably cost you closer to between $250 and $280 before you are done.

A "Duty to Die"?

One of the many fashionable notions that have caught on among some of the intelligentsia is that old people have "a duty to die," rather than become a burden to others.

This is more than just an idea discussed around a seminar table. Already the government-run medical system in Britain is restricting what medications or treatments it will authorize for the elderly. Moreover, it seems almost certain that similar attempts to contain runaway costs will lead to similar policies when American medical care is taken over by the government.

Make no mistake about it, letting old people die is a lot cheaper than spending the kind of money required to keep them alive and well. If a government-run medical system is going to save any serious amount of money, it is almost certain to do so by sacrificing the elderly.

There was a time-- fortunately, now long past-- when some desperately poor societies had to abandon old people to their fate, because there was just not enough margin for everyone to survive. Sometimes the elderly themselves would simply go off from their family and community to face their fate alone.

But is that where we are today?

Talk about "a duty to die" made me think back to my early childhood in the South, during the Great Depression of the 1930s. One day, I was told that an older lady-- a relative of ours-- was going to come and stay with us for a while, and I was told how to be polite and considerate towards her.

She was called "Aunt Nance Ann," but I don't know what her official name was or what her actual biological relationship to us was. Aunt Nance Ann had no home of her own. But she moved around from relative to relative, not spending enough time in any one home to be a real burden.

A "At that time, we didn't have things like electricity or central heating or hot running water. But we had a roof over our heads and food on the table-- and Aunt Nance Ann was welcome to both.

Poor as we were, I never heard anybody say, or even intimate, that Aunt Nance Ann had "a duty to die."

I only began to hear that kind of talk decades later, from highly educated people in an affluent age, when even most families living below the official poverty level owned a car or truck and had air-conditioning.

It is today, in an age when homes have flat-panelled TVs, and most families eat in restaurants regularly or have pizzas and other meals delivered to their homes, that the elites-- rather than the masses-- have begun talking about "a duty to die."

Back in the days of Aunt Nance Ann, nobody in our family had ever gone to college. Indeed, none had gone beyond elementary school. Apparently you need a lot of expensive education, sometimes including courses on ethics, before you can start talking about "a duty to die."

Many years later, while going through a divorce, I told a friend that I was considering contesting child custody. She immediately urged me not to do it. Why? Because raising a child would interfere with my career.

But my son didn't have a career. He was just a child who needed someone who understood him. I ended up with custody of my son and, although he was not a demanding child, raising him could not help impeding my career a little. But do you just abandon a child when it is inconvenient to raise him?

The lady who gave me this advice had a degree from the Harvard Law School. She had more years of education than my whole family had, back in the days of Aunt Nance Ann.

Much of what is taught in our schools and colleges today seeks to break down traditional values, and replace them with more fancy and fashionable notions, of which "a duty to die" is just one.

These efforts at changing values used to be called "values clarification," though the name has had to be changed repeatedly over the years, as more and more parents caught on to what was going on and objected. The values that supposedly needed "clarification" had been clear enough to last for generations and nobody asked the schools and colleges for this "clarification."

Nor are we better people because of it.

Protecting Babies Who Survive Abortions

Sadly, a child died after miraculously surviving an abortion attempt in Italy. Two days after the baby boy was aborted he was found to be breathing. A priest, who had gone to pray next to the body of the baby, was shocked to find him breathing and immediately called on the doctors to help. It appears that the medical professionals had left the boy to die on his own after the abortion failed. He ultimately did die.

The United States has a law protecting children who survive abortion attempts, the “Born-Alive Infant Protection Act of 2002” (Public Law 107-207). The law establishes that any child who is “born alive” (is breathing, the umbilical cord is pulsating, has muscle movement, or a beating heart) after an abortion attempt is considered a person and needs to be treated accordingly. An enlightening aside to this story is that then-State Senator Obama voted against allowing the abortion survivors to live. In his words, “What we are doing here is to create one more burden on women, and I can’t support that.”

How inhumane have we become to allow living breathing survivors of abortions to suffer  until the finally die?

Worth The Cost? You Be The Judge…

She’s come out with a real stinker on this one.

Quoting the Rand Institute, our brilliant House Leader has come out stating that it would be far less costly to treat your teens for their drug use than to stop the damn drugs from coming into the country.

Now if that isn’t San Franciscoan of her.

I bet the folks from back in the day are cheering that sentiment.

Don’t interdict – let them get on drugs, and then, once that demon has it’s claws sunk into the flesh and blood of your children, THEN do something about it.

Um – I don’t care if the facts are true as far as the cost of closing the border versus treating a child.

And the costs of a human addicted to drugs is far worse than a dollar amount in the first place.

Have you known a person who has had to fight this horrible monster? This thing that ravages their soul on a daily basis, constantly clawing, scratching and fighting to be fed again? This thing that destroys lives, futures and families?

This is the callousness that was shown when Nancy Pelosi led her stalwart friends through the crowd, arrogantly sneering at people with the sledgehammer of progressivism in her hands. This is the callousness that is so pervasive of the “caring” left as they enslave people to government handouts. This is the nature of their beast that shows so well in their pervasive and egregious attacks of hate and bile while they claim to be victimized.

This is what she doesn’t mind – the senseless thoughtlessness that leads her to say, screw it – it’ll cost less dollars to put ‘em in rehab.

Wonder how many detoxing people Nancyiful has seen in her life? Does she remember them at all?

The shakes, the chills, the spasms, the vomit, the pain, the fevers, the racking coughs and the screams for release?

I wonder if she has tears in her eyes for the likes of them as well as for Harvey Milk?

Apparently not. She’d rather have your kids go through that than to spend the money to stop the flow from Mexico.

Ah well.

Don’t worry – we know San Francisco will most likely re-elect her.

The question is – will the rest of the country give her another majority?

One reason is federal subsidies for food production. Take a look at these numbers:

  • Meat/Dairy -- 73.8 percent
  • Grains -- 13.2 percent
  • Sugar/Oil/Starch/Alcohol -- 10.7 percent
  • Nuts/Legumes -- 1.9 percent
  • Vegetables/Fruits -- 0.4 percent

That’s right – just 1.9 percent for nuts and legumes and 0.4 percent for fruits and vegetables. As a result, a salad often costs you more than a Big Mac.

This Treehugger article contains several interesting charts and graphs that are well worth taking a closer look at. But it should come as no surprise that federal subsidies for certain kinds of food will directly influence the production and subsequent consumption of that food.

As you can see in the list above, the US food subsidies are grossly skewed, creating a diet excessively high in factory-farmed meats, grains and sugars, with very little fresh fruits and vegetables or healthy fats from nuts and seeds.

The Root of the Problem

I believe many of our society’s chronic health problems could be resolved if attention was paid, at the highest levels of government, to the root problem – our agricultural subsidies.

If growers of subsidized fresh vegetables were in a clear majority, you might start to see some fine advertising campaigns promoting the consumption of those veggies…

Unfortunately, the Department of Agriculture is deeply entrenched with the agri-business, and current legislations protect the profits of these large industries at the expense of public health.

In fact, the agriculture lobby is more powerful than even the pharmaceutical industry! You don’t hear about it as often, but the ramifications of their political influence are just as hazardous to your health as that of Big Pharma.

Sadly, you also see this influence in nutrition science. It is actually not designed to help you make sound dietary choices but rather to allow food companies to make health claims to increase profits, and this is a primary reason why you cannot get sound dietary advice from your government.

Take the Food Pyramid, for example. Back in 2005, when the updated food pyramid was unveiled, nutritionist Luise Light, a former USDA insider and contributing architect of the original version of the Food Guide Pyramid, exposed how the US government bows to industry interests and plays a key role in the obesity epidemic.

As this recent New York Times article states, “Thanks to lobbying, Congress chooses to subsidize foods that we’re supposed to eat less of.”

US Government Subsidizes Fast Food

The food crops currently subsidized are corn, soy, wheat and rice. What do you end up with?

A fast food diet!

And what many fail to remember (or don’t realize) is that the farm bill has a direct impact on what your child gets fed in school, for example, and what food assistance programs will distribute to poorer households.

It’s quite clear that the farm bill creates a negative feedback loop that maintains the status quo of the standard American diet. Because by subsidizing the farming of corn and soy, the US government is also actively supporting a diet that consists of these grains in their processed form, namely high fructose corn syrup, soybean oil, and grain-fed cattle – all of which are known contributors to obesity and chronic diseases.

(In addition, let’s not forget that the vast majority of these two crops are also genetically modified, which in and of itself is a major health hazard!)

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is perhaps the most obvious example of how the farm bill destroys health, as opposed to promoting the production of food that is actually worthy of being called “food.”

HFCS is in TENS of THOUSANDS of food products. If it’s processed, it probably contains HFCS; oftentimes it’s one of the top three ingredients. With everything we now know about how HFCS and other sugars create obesity and chronic disease, it’s no wonder we have a health care crisis on our hands!

Our federal food policy reaches to the very core of our everyday lives; the core of our health. Unless the food policy is addressed and corrected, little progress will be made to improve the current health care crisis.

The links are clear: These food policies directly impact what and how we produce our food, which impacts disease rates, which in turn drive health care costs into the stratosphere.

The average American is now 10 pounds overweight, which translates into $250 billion in added yearly health care costs, not to mention a shorter lifespan.

Farm Bill Also Promotes Excessive Fossil Fuel Consumption

In addition to producing little else but fast food, this type of monoculture is also very dependent on fossil fuels. Because when you grow one type of crop almost exclusively, you deplete the soil, which means you have to use more fertilizer, which is made from fossil fuel.

Monocultures also invite more pests, which need to be treated with ever increasing amounts of pesticides – also made from fossil fuel.

Cheap food is actually incredibly expensive once everything is added up, including stratospheric health care costs, continued dependence on fossil fuels, and the destruction of the earth as a whole.

Opt Not to Play Along – Choose Health!

If you want to optimize your health, you simply must return to the basics of healthy food choices. And try as they may, industry lobbyists still cannot force you to buy these types of junk foods. The choice is entirely yours, and consumer demand will always win eventually, so the more people demand healthy, unadulterated foods, the more they must produce, one way or another.

I encourage you to support the small family farms in your area. You’ll receive nutritious food from a source that you can trust, and you’ll not only be supporting the health of your own family but the health of your entire community.

However, there is still much confusion about what is healthy – and in some cases, whether or not something is actually food. The easiest way to get confused and be led astray by misleading advertising is by focusing on individual ingredients or nutrients rather than the food as a whole.

In a nutshell, the easiest way back toward health is to focus on WHOLE, unadulterated foods; foods that have not been processed or altered from their original state. Food that has been grown or raised as nature intended, without the use of chemical additives, pesticides and fertilizers.

Whole, especially organic, foods contain so many nutrients that work together synergistically, making them superior to anything that contains only the active ingredient (and frequently as a synthetic version at that).

Now, if you don’t’ know what’s implied by “as nature intended,” then that should be a sign that you have gotten too disconnected from the natural world, and a refresher course in natural farming practices may be called for. (For example, corn is not, and has never been, a natural part of any cow’s diet. You will never see a cow nibbling on a corn stalk when out to pasture, no matter how much corn is growing nearby.)

Eating a diet of processed foods while popping vitamins and supplements, thinking you’re getting everything you need for health, is a reckless miscalculation that will extract its true cost in the form of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Remember, any amount of time and money you save today by stopping at a fast food restaurant, you’re bound to repay later when you’re too ill to lead an active life.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The maker of several over-the-counter drugs, including Tylenol, Motrin and Benadryl, said Monday that it is taking "corrective actions" at its U.S. plant after some 40 children's versions of those drugs were recalled for quality concerns.

McNeil-PPC, the division of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ, Fortune 500) that manufactured the recalled products, has been hit with a string of major recalls. The latest one is its fourth in the past seven months.

McNeil said on Saturday that it took action as a "precautionary measure," saying that some of the products could have problems with their ingredients while others could contain "tiny particles."

On Monday, McNeil elaborated on the nature of the "tiny particles," saying they may be solidified product ingredients or manufacturing residue such as tiny metal parts.

"We're conducting a comprehensive quality assessment across our manufacturing operations," said Johnson & Johnson spokesman Marc Boston. "Corrective actions will be implemented before new manufacturing is initiated at our Fort Washington, Pennsylvania plant where the recalled products were made."

McNeil's Pennsylvania plant is the only plant that manufactures Consumer Healthcare liquid pediatric products.

Fourth recall in seven months

In November 2009, the company recalled five lots of its Tylenol Arthritis Pain 100 count with the EZ-open cap product due to reports of an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor that led to some cases of nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

In December, McNeil expanded that recall to include all available product lots of Tylenol Arthritis Pain caplet 100 count bottles with the red EZ-open cap.

In January, McNeil recalled an undisclosed number of containers of Tylenol, Motrin and other over-the-counter drugs after consumers complained of feeling sick from an "unusual" odor.

The drugmaker said the smell was caused by a chemical called "2,4,6-tribromoanisole (TBA)," which is applied to wooden pallets that are used to transport and store packaging materials. But the U.S. wooden pallet industry took issue with McNeil's explanation.

More details about what's wrong with the drugs would be made available once the the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reviewed its inspection of the plant, the agency said.

"The actual inspection finished on Friday and we're hoping to get the complete report of our inspection this week," said Elaine Ganz Bobo, a spokeswoman with the FDA.

She said the agency decided to push for the recall before releasing all the details of the inspection because of the "vulnerability" of the consumers of these drugs.

"These are over-the-counter drugs and they impact infants and children," she said. "So it was even more important to get the message out that there could be a potential problem."

As of Monday, she said the FDA still maintains its position that the recalled drugs pose a "remote" potential for serious health problems.

Meanwhile, Boston said consumers could either email or call the company to get a refund or coupon for the value of the product.
